Nicole Jung awarded a SPARC Europe Open Data Champion

Nicole Jung, member of the Prof. Stefan Bräse group at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was awarded one of the first European Open Data Champions.

FotoShe emphasizes the importance of Open Data in chemistry: “Research data should not be published in high-ranking journals without the storage of raw data in open and easily accessible repositories.” Data are the basis of the work of every synthetic researcher, and the amount and quality of available data have a direct effect on the time and money invested in a research project. Existing databases offering chemical data usually either have limited access or data are limited concerning their detail level.

Therefore, Nicole Jung, Stefan Bräse and colleagues initiated their own repository for research data, which is called the Chemotion repository. The upload of data is possible via transfer from an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) which reduces the effort to a minimum. Read further …

KIT Library is partner of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and the Institute of Toxicology and Genetics in further extension of the ELN for seamless transfer of data towards making them Open Data.

SPARC Europe’s new service – Europe’s Open Data Champions – focuses on highlighting some of the persons who are driving Open Data forward in Europe’s academic communities.
